Our Family
A Letter from our Founders
My wife Kathy Taylor was trained as a geriatric nurse in England. When we moved to California in 1977 she worked in several large Assisted Living facilities but was never happy with the level of care provided. One day she came home in tears because she was not able to influence the standard of care provided by the corporate run facility.
At that point I told her that the only way she could be satisfied was if she ran a facility of her own!
In 1984 we opened a small 6 bed facility in Hemet. Kathy was able to provide the care that she thought all seniors should receive. She had never been happier!
Over the years that facility was expanded, and in 1995 we began construction on Yorkshire House. Building 2 followed in 1998, building 3 opened in 2000, and building 4 is currently under construction.
Yorkshire House is what happens when you decide to build a place for your own mom.
Over the last 26 or so years, I've developed a few thoughts about senior communities. As important as a thoroughly designed community is, I've found the single most important attribute of a successful community are the people you work with. A dedicated, loving, well-trained staff of caregivers and attentive, compassionate managers, with the full support of on-site ownership providing a level of commitment you can't hire. To this day, three generations of Taylor's live within 20 minutes of Yorkshire House.
A great team - that's at the top of my list. And at Yorkshire House, putting and keeping that team together has been a smashing success. We have and continue to enjoy some of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry. And while Yorkshire House has been licensed longer than any other facility in Hemet, we are very proud to have staff who have been with us since day one.
For us this is quite personal. My mother is in her 80's, lives here in town and is becoming more frail. If, or when, she needs care that can't be provided at home, Yorkshire House will be there for us. And while on paper we may look like one of the big corporate facilities, Yorkshire House is family owned and its run that way. These days Kathy and I are retired, leaving everything in the very capable hands of our son Tim.
I was reminded recently why Yorkshire House is like no other, a visitor described her impression during a tour of Yorkshire House. Although Yorkshire House is one of the biggest facilities in the valley, "the boss" (Tim) not only knew every resident and all their family members, but they know him. And it's always a room full of smiles and hugs, from top to bottom everyone loves what they're doing and it shows.
That makes Kathy and I so proud.
Come by and experience something you can't find in a brochure, the Yorkshire House difference.
Sincerely,
Colin Taylor
